Kindle Fire HD

Amazon recently launched new series of their high definition kindle models , Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is one of the them and with a bigger crystal clear display , Nonetheless it is running on custom build famous android operating system.

Kindle Fire HD

Launch of Kindle Fire HD series in market was an effort to revive the sales of Kindle tablet spectrum , powering it with better screen and sound quality

Body

Kindle Fire HD looks bold and thin with a dimension of 240 x 164 x 8.8 mm . Backpanel is glossed along with a thin strip on lower side. Weight is a concern  , as it weighs around 567g which i think is due to 6000mAh battery.

Display

Display is awesome with high resolution of 1920 × 1200 ( 254 pixels per inch)  and on a 8.9 inch screen looks brilliant.

Performance

It comes along with powerful Dual-core 1.5 GHz TI OMAP4 4470 processor and 1 GB Ram which makes running application a breeze on this tablet. It is also powered by Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX544 @299 MHz GPU for an efficient gameplay and rendering.

Software

Android Operating system is custom built and is a child of version 4.0 . Lately Amazon has taken the initiatives of prohibiting Google Play Store from being installed on the latest set of new kindles , forcing new users to use Amazon’s own App store  , which is true for all new HD Kindles. Sadly Amazon App store compared to google app store lacks options and most of the apps are saddled with price tag which may be used using Google Play Store for Free.

Sound

Speakers are dolby digital and are efficient if listened to  in a normal sized bedroom but nonetheless it cannot be compared to music system. But for a tablet Audio System is quite superior.

Network

Kindle fire hd has a built-in dual band wifi (2.5 Ghz and 5 Ghz) and has a very powerful capability of receiving even from a long distance (switched floors in my building and signal strength remained pretty good) . In United States kindle comes with mobile network support (2G/3G and 4G) , but in Non US countries Amazon have customized so that it supports only wifi. Also it doesnt have any Sim Slot , even if you are using it in United States you will be bound to AT&T network and will always remain on their mercy.

The Final Call…

Personally I am not in favor of Kindle despite ; it has a very good display and sound due to many features which are not present or are limited in nature. I will not advise Non US residents to buy it.

Pros : Nice Display and Sound

Cons : No Sim Slot , No Mobile network Support or limited to At&T if U.S resident, No Google Play Store  , No USB , No Memory card slot
