Recent 45 Million $ worth of financial injection has made Linode more powerful . Linode has moved its storage to Data Center grade SSD storage which is amazingly faster with more IOPS . Along with it it has doubled the RAM for consumers on all the plans and many other additional feature ie. WAN bandwidth upgrades , faster processors , hourly billing, cli tools etc have been added.
Linode was considered much reliable then other mid/small scale providers like Digitalocean , Ctrls, Softlayer etc but now eventually it may become ideal choice for Linux hosting over the likes of Amazon Web services , Azure and Rackspace .
With the introduction of hourly billing now linode will cost less if the instance has been deleted and users wont have to pay the damage for whole month. On the lines of AWS command lines tools , linode has also launched its one to control all the instances using cli or scripts.
Our Analysis
Our tech team did rigorous benchmark testing between AWS , Linode, Rackspace and Digital Ocean . Rather then providing figures to avoid confusion we have segmented the scale into “Outstanding(OU) , Exceeds Expectation(EE), Meets Expectation(ME) , Average(A) , Below Expectation(BE)”

No doubt AWS WAN throughput is brilliant but are hardly required if video/audio streaming is not the option. Surprisingly AWS and Rackspace are very expensive as compared to Linode and Digital Ocean due to the fact that data in/out charges along with many other components are excluded from server cost. Digital Ocean seem to had some issues with WAN throughput , their was no packet drop but delay in response time was quite high.
